How to Save, Share and Export Wheel Results
Keep your wheels and results safe: automatic browser saving, share links, exporting history to CSV, result receipts, backups across devices.
Your wheel, your device
Most people build a wheel, spin it a few times and close the tab. The next day they want the same wheel back, or they need to prove who won last week, or a colleague needs a copy. This guide explains how saving works, how to share a wheel without retyping it, how to export results for records, and how to clear everything when you're done. It also covers what each option means for privacy, because wheels often contain names.
Automatic saving
Every change you make is saved automatically in your browser's local storage, on your own device. That includes entries, weights, hidden slices, colours, sound settings, spin options and the history of results. You don't need an account and nothing is uploaded to a server. Close the tab, come back tomorrow on the same browser, and your wheel will be waiting.
There are a few limits to understand. Local storage belongs to one browser on one device: a wheel saved in Chrome on your laptop won't appear in Safari on your phone. Private or incognito windows usually discard storage when they close. Some browsers, or settings such as "clear cookies and site data on exit", also wipe it. If your wheel matters, make a backup with a share link or an export.
Share links
The Share button creates a link that contains your wheel. The entries and settings are encoded into the part of the link after the # symbol. Anyone who opens the link sees the same wheel you built, with the same entries, weights, colours and options. Because the data lives in the link itself, it isn't stored on our servers, and the link works for as long as you keep it.
Share links are useful for moving a wheel between your own devices, giving a co-teacher a copy of a class wheel, publishing a giveaway wheel so entrants can check the list, or saving a wheel in a lesson plan or document. Each person who opens the link gets their own copy. Their spins and history are separate from yours, and changes they make don't affect your wheel.
Remember that anyone with the link can read the entries. If your wheel contains student names or personal details, share it only with people who should see them, and avoid posting it publicly.
Exporting history
The History tab lists each result with its date and time. Choose Export CSV to download the history as a spreadsheet file. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or any text editor. Teachers use it to track participation across a term. Managers use it to show how tasks were shared. Giveaway hosts keep it as part of their records.
Export regularly if the history matters. Local storage can be cleared by the browser, and a CSV file in your documents or cloud drive is a durable copy. You can also combine exports from different sessions in a spreadsheet to see longer-term patterns, such as how often each student was picked over a month.
Exporting your entry list
If you want a copy of the entries themselves, the share link is the quickest backup. You can also select all the text in the entries box and copy it into a document or spreadsheet. For large lists, keep the original source, such as your class register or giveaway export, as the master copy, and paste it into the wheel when needed.
Result receipts
A receipt is a small file that records a draw: the list of entries, the settings, the time and the result, together with a SHA-256 fingerprint of that information. If anyone changes the list or the result afterwards, the fingerprint no longer matches. That makes receipts useful for giveaways, competitions and any draw where you might need to show later that nothing was altered.
Download the receipt straight after the spin. Store it with your recording of the draw and your exported entry list. If someone asks for proof, you can share the receipt. The randomness audit page explains how results are generated and lets anyone run their own test spins.
Images and downloads
The winner popup includes a Download Image option, which saves a picture of the wheel and the winner. It's handy for announcing results on social media, adding to a newsletter or keeping a quick visual record. Check that the image doesn't show anything private before posting it.
Working across devices
To use the same wheel on several devices, open it on the first device, click Share and send the link to yourself by email or a notes app. Open the link on the other device and the wheel appears. From then on, each device saves its own copy, so changes on one won't sync automatically to the other. If you update the wheel, create a fresh share link.
For a classroom, a reliable pattern is to keep a document with share links to each class wheel. At the start of a lesson, click the right link and the wheel loads instantly on whatever computer you're using.
Clearing data
To remove a single wheel's entries, use Clear in the entry tools. To clear the history, use the clear option in the History tab. To remove everything the site has stored, clear the site data in your browser settings; this deletes all saved wheels, settings and history on that browser. Export anything you want to keep first.
If you've shared a link and later want to withdraw it, remember that the data is inside the link. Ask recipients to delete it, and create a new wheel without the sensitive entries. There's no server copy for us to delete, because there isn't one.
Privacy in practice
Because wheels live on your device, the main privacy risks are the ones you control: who you give share links to, which screenshots you post and whether others use your computer. Use first names or initials for student wheels when you can. Avoid entering sensitive personal data such as phone numbers or addresses. When a project ends, clear the wheel and its history. The privacy policy explains what the site stores, including the use of cookies for advertising.
Quick reference
To keep a wheel: it saves automatically; make a share link as a backup. To give someone a copy: use Share, and remember they can read the entries. To keep results: export the history as CSV. To prove a draw: download a receipt. To announce a winner: use Download Image from the popup. To start fresh: use Clear, or clear site data in your browser. With these tools, your wheels stay available when you need them and private when you don't.
