What is the OBS wheel?
The OBS wheel overlay puts your spinner on stream with a transparent background, so viewers see only the wheel and the winner pop-up.
Build the wheel below and press OBS Link to copy the overlay URL. Add it in OBS as a Browser Source (1080 × 1080 works well), then use Interact to spin.
How to use the OBS wheel
Build your wheel in the editor above. Add entries and choose a palette.
Press OBS Link to copy the overlay URL.
In OBS, add a Browser Source, paste the URL and set width and height to 1080.
Right-click the source, choose Interact, and click the wheel to spin live.
Setting up a stream-ready wheel
Streamers love wheels for giveaways, challenge runs and viewer votes, but showing an editor full of buttons on stream looks messy. The overlay link solves this. It opens the same wheel with the toolbar, side panel and page content hidden, and a transparent background, so only the wheel and the winner pop-up appear over your scene.
Your entries travel inside the link, so set up the wheel first, then copy the link. If you change the entries later, copy a new link and update the Browser Source URL. A square 1080×1080 source works well, and you can scale it down in your scene.
To spin during a stream, right-click the Browser Source in OBS and choose Interact, then click the wheel. Sound effects play through OBS if the source is set to control audio, so you can balance their volume against your microphone.
Getting the overlay looking right
Start by building the wheel at full size in your browser so you can check labels are readable. Short entries look best on stream. Then press Copy OBS overlay link from the More menu and add it as a Browser Source. A 1080×1080 source can be scaled down to sit in a corner of your scene without losing sharpness.
If the background isn't transparent, check that you're using the overlay link (it contains obs=1) rather than the normal page URL, and that no custom CSS is set on the source. To reduce flicker when switching scenes, untick 'Shutdown source when not visible' so the wheel stays loaded.
For giveaways on stream, announce the rules and entry list before spinning, keep chat visible, and screenshot the winner pop-up. The receipt code shown in the pop-up can be pasted into chat as a record of the draw.
Stream formats that work well with a wheel
Giveaway segments: collect entries from chat with a keyword, paste the list, dedupe it and spin live at a set time each stream. Challenge runs: load handicaps for your game and let a subscriber or a channel-point redemption trigger a spin. Viewer polls with a twist: turn vote totals into weights, so the popular option is most likely without being guaranteed. Community game nights: spin which viewer joins your lobby next, removing each name once they've played. Music or art streams: spin the next song request, drawing prompt or colour palette.
Recommended overlay sizes
On a 1920×1080 canvas, a browser source of 800×800 scaled to around 550–650 pixels on screen reads clearly without hiding gameplay. For a full-screen giveaway scene, use 1080×1080 and centre it. For vertical streams at 1080×1920, place an 900×900 source in the upper half so it isn't covered by platform buttons. Always set the browser source to the same width and height you designed for, rather than scaling a tiny source up, which blurs text.
Example setup for a weekly giveaway
Create a scene called "Giveaway" with your camera in one corner, a text source showing the prize, and the wheel overlay in the centre. During the stream, run a chat command for ten minutes to collect entries. Paste the usernames into the full wheel page on your second monitor, run Dedupe and refresh the browser source so the overlay updates. Switch to the giveaway scene, show the entry count, spin, and pause on the winner banner. Draw a reserve straight away. Download the receipt and pin it in your Discord alongside the VOD timestamp.
Common mistakes to avoid
Forgetting to refresh the browser source after editing, so the overlay shows the old list. Leaving "Shutdown source when not visible" on, which resets the wheel between scenes. Using pale palettes that wash out after stream compression. Letting the fanfare drown out your microphone. Spinning off-camera and announcing the winner later, which invites doubt. A quick test recording before going live catches all of these.
