    Random Color Wheel

This random colour wheel picks a colour for you. Use it for art prompts, team colours, Twister-style games or picking a theme for a party.

What is the color wheel spinner?

The color wheel spinner is a free online spinner loaded with 10 starter entries, such as Red, Orange, Yellow, Green. You can change every slice, add your own items, set odds and keep a record of each result. People also search for it as “random color wheel”, “colour picker wheel”, “wheel of colors”.

A hidden random generator only gives you an answer. This wheel shows every option and the spin itself, so the group can see nobody picked the result by hand.

Tips for the color wheel spinner

    • Set each slice colour to match its name with the colour swatch.
    • Add hex codes as entries for designers.
    • Use Elimination for a full colour sequence.

    Colour games for children

Colour hunt: spin a colour and give children a minute to find something in the room that matches. Colour tag: the tagger spins a colour, and players touching something of that colour are safe. Paint mixing: spin two primary colours and predict the colour they'll make when mixed. Colour charades: spin a colour and act out something that's usually that colour, such as a banana for yellow. For very young children, set each slice to its own colour so they can match the slice without reading the word.

    Art and design prompts

Spin for a palette and create a drawing using only those colours. Spin one colour for the background and another for the main subject. Spin a mood colour, such as calm blue or energetic orange, and paint a scene that captures it. Designers sometimes spin a colour to break creative block when choosing a theme for a poster or a slide deck. Spin twice for a contrasting accent and see whether the combination works.

    Learning colours in another language

Replace colour names with their translations: rojo, azul, verde; or rouge, bleu, vert. Keep each slice in its true colour so students connect the word to the colour directly, not to their first language. Spin and ask the student to say the word, use it in a sentence, or name an object of that colour in the target language.

Colouring a slice to match its name

The colour wheel works best when every slice shows its own colour. Open the entry row and click the colour swatch to set red to red, blue to blue and so on. Make sure the text on each slice contrasts with its background. White text works on dark colours, and dark text on yellow, light green or pink.

    Games for groups and parties

Twister-style: spin a colour and a body part from two wheels. Team colours: spin to assign teams their colour for sports day or a party game. Colour-themed challenges: name three things that are green, sing a song with a colour in the title, or wear something purple to the next meeting. Outfit roulette: spin a colour to plan tomorrow's outfit.

    Science links

Use the wheel to explore light and colour: spin a colour and discuss its wavelength or where it sits in the rainbow. Spin two colours of light and predict how they combine, then compare with paint mixing to show the difference between additive and subtractive mixing. Spin a colour and research animals that use it for warning, camouflage or attracting mates.

    Accessibility

Some people find certain colours hard to tell apart, especially red and green. Always keep the colour name written on each slice so the result doesn't rely on colour alone, and read the result aloud in group games.

    Example

A reception teacher sets eight slices to their true colours and adds a picture of a familiar object to each one. During carpet time, a child spins, the class says the colour together, and the spinner fetches a matching toy from the box.

Odds on the color wheel spinner

With equal weights each of the 10 entries has a 10.0% chance on every spin. Change a weight and that entry's chance becomes its weight divided by the total. Elimination removes winners and recalculates the odds for the rest. Test any setup on the randomness audit.
