What is the secret santa generator?
The secret santa generator is a free online spinner loaded with 8 starter entries, such as Ava, Liam, Noah, Emma. You can change every slice, add your own items, set odds and keep a record of each result. People also search for it as “secret santa name generator”, “secret santa picker”, “no email secret santa”.
Think of it as a digital prize wheel: you see every option, watch the pointer slow down, and get a clear result that is logged automatically.

Tips for the secret santa generator
- Add exclusions as 'Name ! Name', one pair per line.
- Send each link privately, not in the group chat.
- Set a budget and exchange date before drawing.
How the no-email draw works
Type everyone's names, one per line, and add any exclusions as pairs such as "Ava ! Liam". When you press "Draw names", your browser shuffles the list using its cryptographic random generator until it finds an arrangement where nobody draws themselves and no excluded pair is matched. The result is never sent to our servers. Instead, you get one private link per person. Each link contains only that person's own match, encoded in the part of the address after the # symbol, and opening it shows a "Reveal my person" button.
Sending links privately
Copy each link and send it to the right person directly, in a one-to-one message rather than the group chat. Because the match is stored in the link itself, anyone who opens that link can see it, so treat each link like a sealed envelope. The organiser doesn't need to look at the matches at all; the table only shows names and copy buttons, so even the organiser can take part without knowing who has whom.
Exclusions that work well
Common exclusions are couples and partners, people in the same household, people who had each other last year, and anyone who would simply find a pairing awkward. Write one pair per line; each exclusion works in both directions. Be careful not to over-constrain a small group. With five people and several exclusions, there may be no valid arrangement, and the tool will tell you so. Remove the least important exclusion and draw again.
Rules to agree before drawing
Set a budget and stick to it. Choose an exchange date, or a posting deadline for groups that are spread out. Decide whether gifts should follow a theme, such as handmade, second-hand, books or "something cosy". Ask everyone to share a short wish list with the organiser or in a shared document. Add the event name and budget in the fields above the button and they'll appear on each person's reveal page as a reminder.
Office and remote groups
For workplaces, keep participation optional and gifts inclusive. Avoid alcohol unless you know it's welcome, and avoid jokey gifts that could embarrass someone. Remote teams can send gifts by post or use digital vouchers. Because no email addresses are collected, there's nothing for IT or HR to approve and no mailing list left behind afterwards.
If someone drops out
If a person drops out after the draw, the simplest fair fix is to redraw for everyone and send new links. If gifts have already been bought, the organiser can quietly ask the person who drew the leaver to give to the person the leaver had drawn, which keeps everyone covered.
Beyond Christmas
The same tool works for Eid and Diwali gift swaps, birthday clubs, end-of-term card exchanges, a "kindness buddy" week at school, or a book swap where everyone gives a favourite read with a note inside.
Example
Eight friends in three cities add their names and three couple exclusions. The organiser draws, copies eight links into eight private messages and joins in without knowing any matches. Gifts arrive by post before the video-call unwrapping party.

Odds on the secret santa generator
